Those boring solar street lights can be turned into something beautiful

Friendly solar lighting is a welcome addition to any porch or patio – since components of solar LEDs have become relatively inexpensive, it’s not hard to find affordable solar walkway lights, string lights, or other small solar installations. However, they usually don’t come in many varieties other than the usual grounded styles, so if you want something a little more fun or funky, you might want to go the DIY route.Fortunately, it’s not difficult to turn an ordinary solar light into a more exciting focal point using a few simple tools and materials. Here’s how to tackle your own upgraded solar light project.
The tools and materials you’ll need will vary, but a good cordless drill, a set of drill bits, some floral wire, and wire cutters will come in handy. The most important factor is to choose an outdoor location and place your lights in a sunny location where they can be charged.Once you have your materials and placement, you can decide what type of light you want to create.

There are many ways to use the lights in cheap solar path lights, so we can start with those. The first thing to keep in mind is that these lights come with stakes, but there is no rule that they must be used.Instead, you can use a different structure to keep the light in.For a solar chandelier, take some path light tops and place them in a frugal hanging candle holder. The nice thing about this light is that you can hang it anywhere there’s sunlight because it’s wireless.
To create a glowing fence hat with a solar path light, drill a hole in the top of the fence post the same size as the bottom of the light that normally fits the stake. The hole should be about two to three inches deep to hold the light fixture. To measure the depth of each hole so that all lights are at the same height above the post, wrap some paint tape or other mild tape around the drill a few times and use it as a stop for the drill. If you stop drilling the tape every time, your holes will be the same depth.
You can also use the wire wreath form to create a glowing centerpiece by placing light from a path light in the wreath form and then decorating it with any greenery or wreath decoration you like. For a special outdoor occasion, or a focal point on your patio, these are a fun and easy solar light upgrade project. If you’re having a hard time keeping the lights upright, you can hold them in place by wrapping them around the bottom of the lights and attaching them to the wreath using some trellis wire.

Once you start using these path lights for other purposes, you’ll start seeing new uses for them in every common object. You can use solar street lights on top of jars filled with sea glass or stained glass marbles to make lanterns. You place some solar string lights inside the globe of the lamp post to create a glowing sphere for your garden. You can even place a solar lantern on top of the jack-o-lantern to make a safe, low-cost, solar-lit pumpkin for Halloween. The two things you really need to upgrade your solar LED lights are sunlight and imagination.
