Residents of Jattu, Auchi and neighbouring towns applaud Governor Godwin Obaseki for Lighting the Edo Project (Phase 1) as the towns are now given a new look following the installation of 283 solar street lights strategically located on the main roads connecting the region.A town in northern Edo state.
Stephen Uyiekpen, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Electricity, Edo State, said, “The Light Up Edo Project is part of Governor Obasiki’s declaration to make Edo Great Again, which aims to transform the state into Nigeria’s preferred business destination and improve safety. Improve the living standards of residents.”
“The solar street light project covers the always busy Auchi-Jattu Road and Jattu-Otaru Polytechnic Road,” he explained.
He added: “Jattu-Otaru Polytechnic Road has installed 105 solar street lights (about 3.3 kilometers) from the polytechnic gate, while Auchi-Jattu Township Road (about 4.9 kilometers) has installed a total of 178 solar street lights.”
Talking about the features of solar lights, Engr.LED lights have a minimum lifespan of more than five years (50,000 hours) and a 120-watt capacity, Uyiekpen said.He further stated that the street light supplier provides a two-year warranty for the lights, including maintenance, thus guaranteeing the efficient performance of the solar street lights.
Residents of Jatu Metropolis, who shared their experiences with this reporter, praised the governor for putting their safety and security first and restoring the nighttime economy in the region.
“This is a commendable achievement for Governor Obaseki, with these street lights, he has solved a fundamental problem that has long prevented the town and its surrounding areas from taking full advantage of its geography and market,” said resident Mohammed Momoh.
“We would like to sincerely thank Governor Obaseki for bringing good governance to our doorstep; we are experiencing a sales boom as the Lighted Edo Project has helped eliminate security threats. We are recording an increase in profits as we now do more at night more business,” some traders said.
